Surgery Day (Post-op day 0)
I had my hip arthroscopy on Tuesday. I had a femor neck osteoplasty, acetabularplasty, and labral repair. I was pretty calm the days leading up to the surgery, which I was a bit surprised by because I had been one big stressball the previous week. I found out the time of my surgery Monday morning. I would be the 2nd surgery of the day and needed to get to the hospital at 6:30 am. My husband and I got there a couple of minutes early and I was taken back to pre-op immediately. They had me wipe the incision area down with an anti-bacterial cloth that made me pretty itchy. While back there, my surgeon and his PA both stopped by to see if I had any questions and explained that they decided to have me stay in ICU post-op. The anesthesiologist met with me for awhile and decided that GA and a nerve block would be best for me. He didn't want to do an epidural as it would lower my blood pressure and would only offer limited pain relief. As they were prepping to give me a nerve block they injected me with something that really relaxed me and I don't remember anything after that until I woke up in my room in ICU. I was told that I was in surgery for
4 1/2 Hours! The surgery went really well and my labral tear wasn't as bad as my surgeon thought it would be. He used 2 anchors where the labrum had pulled away and cleaned up some of the fraying. The nurses in ICU were so incredibly nice! They checked in frequently and were really helpful as I kept setting off the alarms. I was definitely the easiest patient they had in ICU! I wish my husband could have stayed the night with me, but I was only allowed company during visitor hours. I ended up feeling pretty achy and having muscle spasms late Tuesday evening so the nurse gave me some dilaudid. I felt great for the rest of the night!
Update: Here are some pics of me taken the day of surgery.
This one was taken when we first arrived at the hospital. I wore my Ohio State hoodie for good luck :)
These next 2 pics are in the ICU....I look pretty bad in these pics LOL
