About Me

My photo
Hi my name is Stacey and I am 30 yrs old. I was previously very active in running, spinning, circuit training, and playing kickball & dodgeball :) I am a bit of a health freak and have always had an interest in nutrition. Up until the beginning of 2011, I was a fairly normal, healthy person. I have been diagnosed with the following : *Mild Acetabular retroversion (left hip) *Superior Labral Tear (left hip) *Mixed FAI (left hip) *SI joint dysfunction *Piriformis syndrome *4 bulging discs in lumbar spine *3 bulging discs in cervical spine *IT Band Syndrome *small bilateral adductor tears *Medial meniscus tear (left knee) *Patellar tracking Disorder *EDS hypermobility type

EDS hypermobility

So, things just got a little more interesting & maybe a little more complicated for me....I just saw a geneticist on Friday and have been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, hypermobility type(type 3). I am proud of myself for finally forcing myself to go to the doctor for this and am oddly relieved with the diagnosis. Everything I have ever been diagnosed with in my life is linked to EDS so things make a lot more sense now to me for why I am the way I am. When i first looked EDS up one year ago, my jaw dropped open in shock as I have almost every symptom....its weird to see everything i have wrong with me on paper under one diagnosis. It is important for me to understand that I heal slower b/c I have EDS so it is possible that's why I am having such a slow recovery. I also still think that it is just the muscles that have tightened up around my hip not scar tissue. It's possible that my muscles tightened up b/c they are trying to create more stability there, but not sure it's just a thought. I did have my massage therapist do trigger point release bilaterally of my psoas, adductors, glutes, & piriformis.....it hurt but i had great results for a couple of hours! My ROM increased and my hip felt really great. Then of course everything started spasming and aching and my pain shot thru the roof. So, I'm not sure if this means I should keep trying trigger point and maybe the muscles will eventually relax or if I need to understand why they are doing this and if it is a stability issue?
